Clifton's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Clifton "Shorty" Goodin Sr., affectionately known as Shorty, but preferred Clifton, on January 17, 2025. Born on July 4, 1948, Clifton lived a full and fulfilling life. He was a beacon of light and joy to his beloved family and friends.
Clifton leaves behind a large and loving family. He is survived by his children Amy Smathers, Clifton Goodin Jr., Jack Goodin, Mike Goodin, and Jennifer Straub; his sons-in-law, Curtus Smathers Sr., and Danny Rankins; daughters-in-law, Chrissy Goodin, Patty Goodin, and Jessica Robinson; and his sister Glinnamae Bryant. A proud grandfather, Clifton will be fondly remembered by his many grandchildren, Brandon Agin, granddaughter-in-law Candice Caskey, Apollo Caskey, Curtus Smathers Jr., Cody Barthalow, Anthony Barthalow, Lakota Goodin, Tyler Larson, Alex Straub, Abri Barthalow, Averlee Barthalow, Tessa Goodin, Iris Larson, Quincy Larson, Quistis Goodin, Emmalee Goodin, Ezekiel Mayes, Warren Hicks, Ryan Szablewski, Josh Szablewski, Hannah Szablewski, and Harmoniee Willims
Clifton was predeceased by his loving wife, Sharon Goodin, his mother Eve Roe, stepfather June Roe, sister Ruby Goodin, brother Louis Goodin, ex-wife Dora-Jean Bierbaum, and his daughter Lori Warf. Despite these losses, he remained a rock of strength for his family.
Clifton proudly served in the U.S Army in 1967. After his service, he relished in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed the taste of pizza, sloppy joes, and potato chips. He started his mornings with a cup of coffee and hydrated throughout the day with water. An ardent fan of Johnny Cash, Clifton found joy in traditional country music. His favorite TV shows were Westerns, and he cherished films like Dennis the Menace and Kung Fu Panda.
He found joy and relaxation in spending time with his grandkids and family. His favorite vacation destinations were the serene landscapes of Tennessee and the sunny beaches of Florida. Clifton had a special fondness for the color blue, a color as calm and dependable as he was.
The presence of family friends Carole Allshouse, Dominique Bright, and Dominique’s daughter Aubrielle brought additional light to his life. Clifton showered his family and friends with unconditional love and will be sorely missed. His memory will continue to reside in the hearts of all those he touched during his lifetime.
