Claudia's obituary
Claudia “Anne” Marchant Drew, age 65, beloved mother of eight children and thirteen grandchildren, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 5, 2022, in South Jordan, Utah. She was born October 28, 1957, in Dugway, Utah, to Maurice Petersen Marchant and Gerta VaLoy Hansen Marchant, both of whom predeceased her. She was the fourth of seven children from a family of four girls and three boys.
Anne dutifully followed her father in librarianship, receiving an Associate Degree in Library Science at BYU. She then followed her heart and pursued a B.A. in Theatre from BYU. She continued her studies, obtaining an M.A. in Counselling from the University of Phoenix. Before and following her years at BYU, she worked at the Provo City Library, and then was School Librarian at Farrer Middle School in Provo, Utah. Anne become School Librarian at Sharon Elementary School in Orem, Utah, which had a double charm for her because she was able to produce and direct several student productions there. Later, Anne became a real estate agent, and at the time of her death was working at Parker Brown Real Estate in Lehi, Utah.
Anne loved theatre. She performed in plays as an undergraduate at BYU, as well as in several LDS stake plays, and later in plays with the Villa Theatre Group in Springville, Utah. Her theater coaching of her five eldest children was so effective that they were in demand by other elementary schools in the Provo School District for their own productions. Anne’s passionate love of singing led her to perform in choirs and musicals throughout her life. She occasionally sang solos that showcased her powerful singing voice. Every Christmas Eve, Anne took her family caroling throughout the neighborhood. Her favorite times of the year were Christmas and, because it fell three days after her birthday, Halloween.
Anne is survived by her eight children, and thirteen grandchildren — Daniel Drew (wife: Michelle; grandson: Maurice; granddaughter: Echo [born on Anne’s birthday in 2017]); Michael Drew (wife: Courtney; granddaughter: Savannah; granddaughter: Ava; grand-daughter: Leia); Nathaniel Drew, with whom she was living at the time of her death (wife: Emily; granddaughter: Adele; grandson: Liam; grandson: Peter; granddaughter: Genevieve); Emma Drew (husband: Marco Blas; grandson: GianMarco; grandson: Alessandro; grandson: Claudio [Anne’s namesake]); Samuel Drew [granddaughter, Lilly]; David “Lehi” Drew (wife: Vanessa); Christopher Drew; William “Joshua” Drew (wife: Drew Harris; granddaughter: Winifred, due in March 2023). Her ex-husband, William Drew, with whom she remained friends, survives her. Anne is also survived by her six siblings — Cathy Marchant, Alan Marchant, Barry Marchant, Roxanne Fillmore, David Marchant, and Theresa Marchant-Shapiro.
Anne’s life was filled with love for children and family. She was a living example of Eph: 4:32 –
“And be kind and compassionate to one another,
forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
