Gene's obituary
Clarence Eugene Hutcheson, better known as Gene, was born on December 10, 1942, and sadly passed away on February 21, 2024. He was a man of great character, loved by many for his intelligence, positivity, creativity, and humor. Gene was also well-known for his kindness, generosity, and dedication. He was a man who laughed heartily and often, always willing to lend his time, money, a helping hand, and advice to those in need.
Gene's life was enriched by his many family members. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Charlotte Hutcheson, ex-wife Ronita Sylvester, his children, Philip Hutcheson (wife Beth), Jay Hutcheson, Geni Hunt (husband Steve), and Lea Hutcheson, and his cherished grandchildren, Anita (fiancé Paul Gnadt), Kaylyn, Kinsey, Zoe, Faith, and great-grandchildren; Savannah and Ezekiel "Zeke". Predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Cleo (Turner) Hutcheson, his sister Donna (Hutcheson) Creswell (husband Jim) and his brothers, Jack (wife Elly) and Jerry Hutcheson, nephews Danny Hutcheson and James Booe. Gene is also survived by his brother, Clifford Hutcheson (wife Donna) and sister-in-law Ginny Hutcheson, among many fantastic nephews and nieces.
His personal life was rich and filled with love. In 1968, Gene married Roni and subsequently adopted Philip Hutcheson and then had three more children with Roni. He later got divorced in 1996 but found love again and married Charlotte Hutcheson in 2012.
Gene's professional life was diverse and fulfilling. At the tender age of 12, he began working as a pinsetter at the Onawa Bowling Alley. He later served in the U.S.A. Army Corps and worked for Guaranteed Mutual Insurance where he earned the honor of being the top salesman of the nation! His political ambitions led him to run for Congress in 1977 and nearly win! The same year he became a small plane pilot (for pleasure). He built several businesses and experienced much success as an entrepreneur travelling all over the world.
Besides his family, Gene's passions included a love for golf, bowling, and football. He was a fan of the Broncos, Fighting Irish, Rockies, and enjoyed playing Gin Rummy and Bridge, Backgammon, Checkers, and many other board and card games. His favorite vacation spot was Barbados, and his favorite color was blue.
Gene was an avid reader, history buff, mathematical genius, mystery lover, and a fan of many music icons such as Elton John, The Carpenters, Peggy Lee, Mozart, Frank Sinatra, Henry Mancini and Nat King Cole.
Above all, Gene loved his family and always put them first. His legacy of generosity, kindness, and perseverance will live on through them. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, his success as an entrepreneur, the love he gave to others, and his charitable giving are all part of a rich and enduring legacy. He was a remarkable man who will be dearly missed by many. A favorite phrase he often said was; "keep on keeping on," and that’s what his family will do in his honor.
