Chuck's obituary

On March 10, 2021, Clarence “Clem” “Chuck” Emery passed away peacefully at home at the age of 82. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Emery.

Chuck was born on May 22, 1938 in Bangor, Maine to Clarence and Charlotte Emery and had two sisters, Martha and Skip Emery. After graduating from Bangor High School, he joined the Marines and was proud to have served his country. Once his military service ended, he became manager of a bed and breakfast in Washington DC. He then made the journey over to the west coast to start a new future for himself. He found a new home in Medford, Oregon, where he worked as a bartender at the Red Lion for 12 years. It was here that he met the love of his life, Carolyn, and they married in 1979. They lived happily together in Medford, working together, for many years. During this time, he became a grandfather and excelled at that role, passing down his love and humor to his next generation. An avid sports fan, Chuck wasn’t going to miss a game whether he was cheering for his beloved Boston Red Sox or the Oregon Ducks.

After a few years of wedded bliss, they decided to fulfill their dream to travel the country and drove back to his home state of Maine to live for a time, but eventually Chuck and Carolyn found themselves back in Oregon; this time in Oakland to take care of family and enjoy the peaceful serenity of their riverside property. It didn’t take long before Chuck had integrated into the community, showing his compassion for others by volunteering for the Kellogg fire department, becoming a certified EMT, and driving an emergency ambulance for Drain, Oregon. For 7 years he helped in his community and brought joy and peace of mind to the people he helped. Unsurprisingly, he finished his career by working and retiring from Adapt, where he was able to make a positive impact on those striving to overcome substance abuse and behavioral health disorders.

“Papa Chuck” could usually find a way to bring a smile to someone's face. He had a funny joke or riddle on the ready to liven up a room, but also a quiet and a warm kindness that extended to all. He was most certainly going to bring joy to people in those small moments in life that you need a smile or a laugh.

He brought laughter and compassion to the world, which will be dearly missed; his humor and joy for life lives on in those whose lives he touched. A part of him lives on in all of us. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, a strong father, a caring brother, a kind grandfather, and a good friend to whomever might need one. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. We love you, Chuck.
