Clarence's obituary
Clarence Blanchard, a longtime resident of San Francisco, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026. He was born on January 20, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
As a young man, Clarence served in the United States Navy. His time in the service was a meaningful chapter in his life that would define him for decades to come.
Clarence devoted several decades to the electrical trade in San Francisco, working as both a skilled electrician and as the first Black electrical inspector. He often spoke about the future of the trade depended on investing in the next generation. Teaching, guiding, and helping others move their careers forward brought him genuine fulfillment.
Outside of his career, Clarence found great joy in fishing. Whether casting a line was one of his favorite ways to relax and connect with the people he cared about.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Blanchard and Louise Bell Blanchard, and by his brother and best friend, Fred Blanchard.
Clarence is survived by his children, Lynne Jenkins, Melanie Thomas, and Leslie Brown; his sisters, Elenora Stewart and Conchetta Edwards; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews; his sister-in-law, Havis Blanchard; and a host of other family and close friends.
Respecting Clarence’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Family and friends are invited to remember and honor his life in their own way. Interment at a military cemetery will take place at a later date.
