Claire's obituary

Claire Alice Rice, age 93 of Brunswick, Maine entered this world and began her journey through life on August 3, 1927. She lived a full life and filled the lives of others with joy, love, and happiness. On Monday morning, November 23rd, she passed away at her home. Though she is physically gone she lived a life that will never be forgotten.

Claire was an amazing wife, mom, sister, cousin, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. She was the daughter of the late George and Emma Bernard of Fall River, MA and was the oldest of eight children. Her siblings include: Lorraine (Robert) Lavoie, Ronald (Mary) Bernard, Roger (Deb)Bernard, Nan (Ray) Taylor, Edna (Spike) Dionne, Jeanne (Leo) Scopino, and Robert (Jeanne) Bernard. Nieces, nephews, and cousins were also a big part of her life. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing and met the love of her life Ervin Rice who became her lifelong dance and life partner. They began their life as a married couple on May 17, 1952. From there they began a family that they both centered their lives around.

Her love of sweets and baking was always shared with family and friends. Her grandchildren especially enjoyed her waffles with margarine and powdered sugar. She enjoyed being creative, sewing, crafts, canvas stitching and crocheting. Her creations were always shared with many. “Miss Claire” touched the lives of many children and families while working for many years at Three Bears Nursery School in Brunswick, Maine. She also had a passion for traveling to the warm climate of Florida. She spent lots of time with family and friends in the warmth and sunshine of Leesburg, Florida.

Claire was a member of the St. Charles church and The Daughters of Isabella. Her love, kindness, and caring personality were rooted in her love and faith in God. She brought so much joy into the lives of others especially to her family and friends.

Over the years her memory began to fade, but one thing that never changed was the love that she shared with others. Her love was and always will be strong and felt by all. She is now in the comfort of God in heaven with the company of loved ones: Emma, George, Jeanne, Nan (Ray), Edna (Spike), Bob, and her beloved dog Tobie who have passed. The memories that she created and the kindness and joy she shared with others will never be forgotten.

Claire was happily married to her husband Ervin Rice for 68 years. Together they raised five children: Charles (Ruth) Rice, Douglas (Brenda) Rice, Donna (Robert) DeLong, James (Rebecca) Rice, and John (Louise) Rice. She cherished her Grandchildren: CJ, Bethany, Cory, Leighanne, Jonathan, Tyler, Lexie, Spencer, Kelsey, and Zoe. Claire also adored her 12 great grandchildren.
