Claire's obituary

Claire "Nana" Pelletier (née Ladouceur) passed away peacefully at 12:01am on December 30, 2023 at age 78 at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie. She went home to see Jesus, her son Alain Pelletier, her mother and father, and all her siblings and friends who had passed on before her.

Claire was born to Émile and Rita (née Doucet) Ladouceur on January 26, 1945 in Timmins, Ontario. She was the third born of ten siblings. Claire met her beloved husband Donald Pelletier in 1964 at the Macintyre Arena for a roller skating date night with her friend Mariette (née St-Denis) and André Bisson . They married on February 26, 1966 in Timmins at Église St-Sauveur and went on to have 3 children, André Pelletier (Shannon Turnbull), Chantal Stephens (Daniel Brun) and pre-deceased by her infant son Alain Pelletier.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Claire also loved to be a Nana to her four grand-children, Cassia Stephens (Jonathan Larocque), Emily Pelletier (Sean Balkos), Quinton "Russell" Stephens (Oliver Welch) and Cameron Pelletier. Survived by her daughter in-law Lisa Panagiotou and son in-law Owen "Blayne" Stephens.

Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. She was active as a volunteer for agencies such as Birthright, Volunteer Candy Striper for the Tuck shop at St-Mary`s hospital, and was instrumental in founding and supporting the Francophone Palliative Care Volunteers in Timmins, Ontario for the Timmins District Hospital with her friend Hélène Petrowski and other founding members.

Claire was an Educational Assistant and retired in 2004. She worked with many children with special needs during her career. After Donald retired in May of 2005, they sold their house on Cody Street to move to Barrie, Ontario.

Claire joins her brothers, Jacques Ladouceur, Roger Ladouceur (Huguette Ladouceur, and her sisters Claudette Bienias (née Ladouceur), Laurette Chisholm (née Ladouceur) and Jacqueline Mitruk "Jackie" (née Ladouceur). She also joins her pre-deceased brother in laws, Stan Bienias, Yves Lefebvre, Robert Chisholm, Earl Shorthouse, Joseph Gaudet and Maurice St-Jean in Heaven. She is survived by René and Donna Ladouceur (née Burke), Donald and Michelle Ladouceur (née Nadeau), Aline Lefèbvre (née Ladouceur) and Huguette Shorthouse (née Ladouceur). She is also survived by her sisters in-laws Sylvie Ladouceur (née Beauchemin), Huguette Ladouceur (née Bois), Carole Price and brothers in-law Steve Comeau and Mike Mitruk.

She will be greatly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews, beloved friends and extended family. She will be greeted in the spirit world by her nephew Justin Skovron (Amanda) and Jamie Ladouceur, and her niece Louanne Gorrie (née Ladouceur) (Todd).

She is survived by her "grand fur babies": Finn, Fionna, Nugget, Kitty, Carl, Elbow, Penne, Toto and Leroy. Predeceased by Bear, Randy and George.

The family would like to thank the Oncology Team at RVH, especially Dr. Sara Rask, Head of Oncology, for her excellent care and concern with  Claire's journey with  stage four metastasized breast cancer. Special thanks to Emily Dampier, the Indigenous Patient Navigator and the Palliative Care team Dr. Alexander Dickson and RN Robyn.

The family would like, in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Simcoe Hospice in Barrie, Ontario. Her hospice stay, although short allowed us to support and grieve as a family.

A celebration of life is planned for the 27th of January 2024 in Brechin, Ontario at 1 Hayloft Lane Bayshore Village at 1pm.

All donations to Hospice Simcoe would be greatly appreciated.
