Claire's obituary
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Claire Hamilton (fka Kimball), a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. We invite her friends, family, and well-wishers to join us in honoring Claire's memory on May 6, 2023, at 12:00 PM. The Celebration of Life will take place at the Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation at White Plains.
Born a fraternal twin on November 20, 1946 to Othello A. Hamilton, Sr. (1922-1998) and Muriel C. Hamilton, nee Hill (1922-1952), Claire embarked on a life journey filled with love, laughter, travel, and curiosity, which continued until her passing on April 12, 2023. Having lost her mother at a young age, she treasured and deeply loved her family. Motivated by that love she spent much of the past 15 years researching, recording, and sharing her family history as an amateur genealogist.
Claire was a "Bronx girl" through and through, tenacious and self-reliant. Combining her Bronx girl gifts with intellect and a strong work ethic, she made a successful career for herself working in office administration and management. In 2008, she retired from her position at Ernst & Young, LLP after some 25 years. Claire demonstrated to her staff, her children, and countless others that each of us is limited only by ourselves.
A woman of distinction, Claire's warm, direct, and funny nature touched the lives of many. Her legacy is carried on by her daughters, Karyn M. Lee (1971) and Keiko L. Kimball Gouty (1982). That legacy includes fierce love, gentle teasing, travel, home decor, and Cherry Garcia ice cream. Keiko and Karyn feel honored to have called her their mom and also their friend.
Claire has been the matriarch of her family of origin for many years. In addition to her daughters, she is dearly missed by her brothers, Vernon C. Hamilton (1942) and Clyde C. Hamilton (1946), and their partners, Michele and Ann, respectively. She will be well-remembered by her son-in-law, Christopher A. Gouty (1979), and former husband, Clarence S. Lee, Jr. (1942). Her many cousins will miss her, as will her nieces (Lisa, Lynda, and Gabrielle), nephews (Alex, Brian, and Julian), and their children. She is predeceased by her brother, Othello A. Hamilton, Jr. (1941-1998), her parents, and her former husband Masayuki H. Kimball (1949-2021).
As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, let us cherish the memories Claire bestowed upon us, forever keeping her loving spirit alive in our hearts.
