Cindy Lew's obituary

Cynthia Mary Zoll, known as “Cindy” or “Cindy Lew” (and to some close friends as “Trouble”), was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her dry sense of humor and quick wit lit up whatever room she was in. After battling numerous afflictions which escalated over the past 6 months, Cindy peacefully passed away on May 15, 2023, at age 79.

Cindy was born to Charles and Elizabeth Risley Lewis on December 7, 1943 and was raised in Delanco, NJ. She graduated from Riverside High School in 1963 and was then married to Jim Zoll until his untimely death in 2001. Cindy was a proud mother of her daughter, Mary Freilich, and son, James Eric Zoll (deceased 9/15/2016). The family lived in Palmyra, NJ where Cindy was an active member (and choir singer) at the Epworth United Methodist Church, bowled in a league for several years, and enjoyed spending time with friends.

Being a mother and wife always came first, but Cindy found time to enjoy some part-time work at Caldor as a phone operator, at the Cinnaminson Twin move theaters as a ticket-taker and at home as a care giver to children, whose lives she continued to be involved in many years later. Cindy was known as the family Griot who held and happily shared her knowledge of the family history. To her further delight, she became a grandmother in 2005 to Mary’s daughter Emilia Mae and then in 2009 and 2012 to Eric’s children, James Jr., and Daniel.

Cindy found even more fulfillment when she moved to Rome, NY to be closer to her parents. She joined the congregation at First United Methodist Church of Rome and went on to develop many close friendships through the church’s book club, prayer chain, and the ladies’ luncheons. Several of those friends were the last to visit her before her passing, and her family is grateful for their love and support.

Cindy is survived by her daughter, Mary, her brothers, Richard Lewis and Wayne Lewis, and her grandchildren, Emilia Freilich and JJ and Daniel Williams.

Arrangements are entrusted to Prince-Boyd & Hyatt Home For Funerals, Inc., 210 W. Court Street, Rome, NY.
