Background
My mom passed away on August 9th. She was only 48. She didn't have a incurable disease or get into an accident. She was on disability. Ever since she got approved for disability and had to quit working, she gained a lot of weight and wasn't nearly as active as she used to be. She was also the type of person that put everyone in her life before herself. Her best friend was having some issues due to a lot of falls recently. My mom's legs were more swollen then normal and had been hurting her, but she wanted to stay home so she could be there for her best friend. I didn't know about her leg pain, she hardly ever told me when she was feeling bad. By the time the pain got so bad that she finally agreed to go, it was too late. The extremely swollen and painful legs turned out to be blood clots. Those blood clots got into her lungs. And that was it.
I'm 26 years old, an only child, and none of her surviving siblings live nearby so everything falls on me to decide what to do. I did the only thing I could do and tried to find out if the insurance she had once mentioned she had would cover anything. It had lapsed back in February. My birthday month. So probably because my mom choose to get me a gift versus paying on her insurance. So that left me to pick the cheapest way to out her to rest. My goal is the cost of cremation where I live. I'm in the healthcare field. I am use to loss. But I was never prepared to lose one of my parents so soon. I have my good times and my down times. I will for a while. But if I can put the cremation behind as soon as possible, it would help. It's been almost a month and I still keep thinking I'm going to get a call or a text from her, and almost do so myself.
