My biggest adventure with Leigh was going to Arroyo Seco and losing my wallet and keys in the river. We had to flag rides to the tiny town nearby and knock on doors till someone answered and let us use their phone. It was a late afternoon in November. Big learning experience for Leigh on how helpful strangers can be. A couple of women welcomed us in, gave us drinks and showed Leigh around their yard. They gave Leigh a small aloe vera plant, that lives by the front door. -- Ken

I'm in shock! I was just spoking with Lisa in August, we reconnected recently, after off and on talking since 1987. She filled me in on all her life to date. Our history was we lived together at her parents' house and then in an apartment in Palo Alto while she was in college. After I moved to LA we still stayed in contact over all these years. I'm extremely hurt and hurting so much for her family. I always loved you Lisa as a great friend always. I will never get over this.

Family my sincere condolences on the loss of your family. In such a tragic time… there are no words that fill the huge void that is left in your heart and life. Death is a cruel enemy. Please find comfort in knowing that Jehovah is yearning to bring back Lisa, Leigh, Lucy and Ben. Job 14:15 reassures us that God is yearning to bring them back. Acts 24:15 says “I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection.” He will also rid us of all the suffering and death. Revelation 21:4 says there he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. May you and your whole family find comfort in knowing that soon these promises will be fulfilled.

Nov 25 2021. (Author vs Artist) Leigh: I’m writing a story.
Me: How exciting! What’s it about? Her: It’s about a girl. She’s 11.
Me: Sounds promising! What else?
Her: That’s all I thought of so far.
Me: That’s it?
Her: Here’s the picture I drew of her.
Me: You are extraordinary and I love your story.

Daughter: Do I have to go to school?
Me: Oh no, are you sick?
Daughter: Of school. I need a mental health day.
Me: [launches into encouraging, persuasive speech regarding the importance of education to both her future and our contribution to community, as she nods in agreement. Mentally pat myself on back for parenting well done.]
Daughter, two minutes later: But, do I HAVE to go to school?
Me: Yes.
Her: But do I HAVE TO... because maybe I just won’t get out of the car.
Me: Remember when you asked me why I didn’t delete the Kidz Bop album from my playlist after you guys reached puberty?
Her: Yeah...?
Me: For moments like these, sweetie. (Turns up music loudly and pulls into drop off area)
Her: OK OK NO NEED TO RESORT TO VIOLENCE.
Me: I love you, have fun today

Lisa writes about her and the kids:
“ If you're ever feeling less than confident, I 100% recommend wearing a flower crown. Daughter weaved it as a surprise, working feverishly in the yard. I have the sweetest and most creative kids"

I'm so sorry I will miss the services on the 13th, I would really like to attend and will be there in spirit and thoughts. My heart is with Lisa's family and all who loved her. I can't put into words what she added to my life, and the hole she's left is too big to measure.

When Lucy was 6 years old, she made up a game she called “Doctor’s Visit.” She was he doctor and various stuffed animals were patients, with Grandma doing their voices. Lucy had a very creative idea — she set up an iPad in her “office” with the “kids” facing it, and then they played games that were part of the exam. For instance, the password to the first game was “breathe deeply,” so the patient would breathe deeply to get the game started. Then the kid would watch a video of kids having someone check their heart rate or get their eyes & ears examined, while the real doctor did the same things to the kid.
Each game had a name, most which I forget. There was “Temperature Witch,” where the kid watched other kids getting their temperatures taken, then a thermometer came out of the computer and took his temperature. The least favorite game was “Shot-Tastic,” which of course was the kid getting a shot. Lucy said she thought that game wouldn’t stay popular long. “Snack-O-Rama” came last (the kid gets a healthful snack). It would be more successful, Lucy said.
Maybe sometime in the future, that’s pretty much how kids will get their exams. They’ll be hooked up to a computer and play various “games,” while the computer does the tests.
On a “night walk,” we saw some glowing mushrooms around an oak tree near the back fence in Lisa’s yard. Lucy informed us that this is what happens when fairies do their magic.
