Christopher's obituary

Christopher Martin Clark, 68, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 18, 2023 in his Montgomery, AL, home surrounded by his family.

Born in Newton, MA, Chris attended Wellesley High School and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University. Chris was married in 1981 to Holly Burk Clark a fellow Northeastern alumni and a strong-willed woman that would be a source of strength for him in years to come.

Growing up as the eldest of five, with a mother who was constantly entertaining, hospitality was an easy fit for Chris. He was a man who valued connection, personal relationships, etiquette and always saw the best and potential in others. He began his early career with the Hyatt Cambridge, relocating to Atlanta and Naples, FL, to establish operations for the Ritz Carlton. For 14 years, he and his family lived in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where Chris worked as the General Manager of North River Yacht Club. Vested in his community and his children he served as the President of Holy Spirit High School Booster Club, President of the Tuscaloosa Convention Visitors Bureau and a Board Member for the West Alabama Soccer Association. He continued to pursue excellence in career, becoming the Club Manager at the Atlanta Athletic Club for ten years.

Chris loved being a part of the club industry serving twice as the President of the Club Managers of America in both Alabama and Georgia. He was a mentor to many in the industry and continued to hold those relationships well past retirement.

His greatest joy was family and skiing. He was a proud and boastful father to both Courtney and Matt. He was impressed with anything that his children pursued, and always worked to set them up for success. He was a forever coach and organizer for his kids, his siblings, the Tuscaloosa soccer community, those in the hospitality industry and his neighbors.

Chris was proceeded in death by his parents, Deborah Clark Farrell and Benneville Clark, and his brother, William “Bill” Clark.

Chris is survived by his wife, Holly, his daughter Courtney Clark of Atlanta, GA, his son Matthew Clark and his wife Katharine Clark of Raleigh, NC. He also leaves behind his siblings Peter, Davis and Abigail Clark.

A private celebration of his life will be held in his favorite vacation spot and where he taught his children to ski, Whistler, BC.
