Chris's obituary

Christopher “Chris” Edward Hoeland, 47, of Naples, FL, formerly of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away unexpectedly on August 8, 2025. Born on August 27, 1977, in Arlington Heights, IL, he grew up surrounded by family, friends, and the vibrant culture of Chicagoland that would shape his life.

Chris was a devoted father to his two children, Kaylee and Jacob, who were the light of his life and his proudest achievement. He is survived by his daughter Kaylee, his son Jacob, his sister Jaime (Travis), his brother Michael (Jennifer), his nephew Gunner, his niece Annabelle, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jennifer and Thomas Hoeland.

A dedicated professional, Chris built a successful career in upper-level grocery store management, holding leadership positions at Venture, Sam’s Club, Walmart, and Aldi. Beyond his work, Chris had a gift for making moments memorable — whether it was planning family vacations to Disney, cheering on Chicago sports teams, savoring a Portillo’s Italian beef, indulging in Fannie May chocolate, or enjoying a slice of deep-dish pizza.

Music, baseball, and laughter filled Chris’s world. A true child of the ’80s and a teen of the ’90s, he carried with him a spirit of individuality and an unwavering love for the people and things that mattered most. His love of baseball began in childhood, when he played on teams coached by his dad — a connection that made the game even more special and lasting in his life. Those who knew Chris remember his humor, his fierce loyalty, and his ability to make any gathering more lively.

As a lifelong Cubs fan, Chris simply appreciated the words of “Mr. Cub,” Ernie Banks: “It’s a great day for a ball game; let’s play two!”

A celebration of Chris’s life will be held in Crystal Lake, IL, on at the Hoeland residence, date to be determined. Food and refreshments will be served as family and friends gather to share memories and honor his legacy.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome for an account dedicated to his children’s future. Please reach out to Mike, Jaime, or Jen for details.

Gone too soon, Chris will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his laughter, his love for his children, and his zest for life will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

“Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever.” — Walt Disney
