Christine's obituary

Christine Debra Rehfeldt passed away suddenly yet peacefully from pneumonia.  Christine’s amazing life touched so many from her love for all her dogs and spending time with her longtime companion Bob Schneider and many friends.   Christine’s life was about enjoying special trips into NYC seeing broadway plays, and going out to restaurants as a celebration of the good things life offers.  Christine also enjoyed the small pleasures like sharing a Neapolitan pizza pie every Sunday with Bob and enjoying watching Netflix together or walking along the beach in search of sea glass.  Christine created an Oasis at her sweet Rocky Point, New York home.  Christine happily volunteered in 2011 being our mother’s caretaker and in many ways mom was her caretaker ready to share a hug with Christine.  The life Chris shared with mom was filled with their love of yard sailing and finding treasures, yet the best treasure was came through in laughter and situational silliness.  Christine made sure they had something planned several times a month making each event special.  If they went in the City (New York City) they took a limousine.  They regularly went to concerts and lived a happy life.   On December 7th, 2013, a day Christine said will go down in infamy was a day Christine lost her only son Tommy D’Antonio.  It was a blessing mom was there to comfort Christine and be her life support and best friend.  Sadly passing on January 20, 2022 our mother and Christine’s lifeline passed away.  Christine was heartbroken, and took our mother’s death hard.  Fortunately, she had her friends, family, church and Rocky Point Community especially her longtime companion Bob Schneider.  Christine loved nature, and all of her dogs to include Noel Freedom, Frisky, Sugarbear and her boy Brooklyn.  Christine a beautiful, sensitive, romantic  soul loved learning and we siblings viewed Christine as the ‘smart sister’.  Christine was inquisitive and loved many of her teachers at Nesconset Elementary School that she decided she decided when she grew up she wanted to teach elementary school.  She pursued her bachelors degree and went on getting her masters in teaching.  Christine was the Hans Christian Andersen of storytelling especially as we rode in a camper heading across the United States in the mid 1960’s without the entertainment kids have today.  Christine had many friends whom loved her, they were her extended family.  I am selfish as her sister Lori because I wanted her to live well into her 80s.  Christine was getting her teaching license in order so to substitute teach at Rocky Point Elementary School when she came down with a bacterial flu that worsened, and a few days later she died.  We will all deeply miss Christine’s thoughtfulness.  She never failed to deliver a Christmas card or birthday card.  She was a romantic for her souvenirs she cherished through her life.  I know Christine is in heaven with Mom, her son Tommy our brother Harold and many who have gone before.  She has a job helping us reconcile our loss and, yet we are comforted knowing Christine is at peace.  The greatest gift to all of us is the legacy Christine Debra Rehfeldt left us all which is sharing her love while navigating through the ups and downs life throws at us.  Christine was a strong, determined, smart woman living the best life many can only dream.  I want to thank Bob Schneider for being Christine’s longtime companion.  I want to also thank her dear friend Sheila, you always made  her life special for Christine while always having her back.  I am thankful for our sisters  Colleen and Donna being there for Christine and giving Christine a chance to say her goodbyes.
