Christine Petersen - A tribute in memory

June 6, 1948 – August 16, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we would like to inform you that Christine Petersen, the first President of ESGENA, passed away on August 16, 2023 after a serious illness.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Christine Petersen held a senior position as an endoscopy nurse at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. At that time, she was already networked worldwide and had good connections to the international society SIGNEA and the American society SGNA. Christine Petersen was part of the group of European nurses who prepared the foundation of ESGENA in 1994. When ESGENA was born in 1996, she was elected as the first president of ESGENA. From 1998 to 2001 she served as an ESGENA Councillor.

Although she left the board in 2001, she always remained connected to ESGENA. For more than 20 years she attended every ESGENA congress. She loved working at the ESGENA Membership Desk. There she was able to advertise ESGENA, she established contacts between colleagues and recruit new members. She did this work with a lot of enthusiasm. She also used her contacts outside of the congresses to make nurses aware of the European community. ESGENA could always rely on their loyalty and support.

Before her death, she felt the need to say goodbye to her European and international friends. Christine was very thankful that she never lost touch over 3 decades. She asked us in a final WhatsApp to thank all colleagues and friends in the ESGENA community for the time together, the varied, beautiful experiences and the nice memories. She really wanted to thank everybody for the lovely messages and stories from the past.

Christine was a unique personality with a wonderfully dry sense of humor and a big heart. Our thoughts are with her family and close friends.
