Christine's obituary

Christine Nantz passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 30th. Chris was born to Tony Pellegrino and Nina Gudjonsdottir Pellegrino in Brooklyn, New York, from a proud Italian-Icelandic heritage. After working a variety of office positions and a brief stint as a computer technician "in the days when computers were more hardware than software", she joined the Army National Guard where she faithfully served her country in the Guard and Reserves for sixteen years.
She met Major David Nantz, US Army Ret., in Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. They were married on May 29th, 1982, at Oak Hill United Methodist Church, with a reception at the family home that was visited by a thunderstorm so fierce, it is still remembered thirty-eight years later. They moved to Alaska two years later, where they spent sixteen years exploring the Alaskan wilderness and raising two daughters.
After moving back to North Carolina, she devoted her time to volunteering at her church and local community theater. In her later years, she enjoyed travelling with David for his work with FEMA. She spent many hours on her creative pursuits, and was known for her special occasion gowns for proms, weddings, and christenings in particular.
She is survived by her husband, David, her two daughters and son-in-law, Naomi Nantz and Rebekah and Matthew Mechem-Nantz, brother Michael Pellegrino, and sisters Toni O'Neill, Teri Yurek, Angie Jacobsen, Joan Johnston, and Roseann Zeblisky.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Youth Program at Oak Hill UMC.
Arrangements are being handled by Sossomon Funeral Home.
