Chris's obituary
Christine “Chris” King passed away on February 17, 2026, after a brave and determined battle with cancer. Born on May 30, 1952, Chris lived a life shaped by warmth, humor, resilience, and a deep love for the people around her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth King. She is survived by her children, Kym Adams and Jason Purcell; her grandchildren, Zoe Cahill and Ethan Adams; her grandson-in-law, Austin Cahill; her brothers, Michael and John King; and other close family members who loved her dearly.
Chris had a gift for finding joy in the everyday. She loved good food, especially steamed shrimp and Maryland crabs, and was never far from a Coca-Cola, iced tea, or her morning coffee. Her home was often filled with familiar comforts—The Waltons, Golden Girls, or Grey’s Anatomy on the TV, Rod Stewart playing in the background, and a game or puzzle to keep her mind busy. She was a devoted Baltimore Orioles and Ravens fan and talked often about DuClaw Brewing Company, her favorite place long after its doors closed. And though she didn’t get to the beach as often as she dreamed, it was always the place she talked about going next, a symbol of rest, sunshine, and joy.
Her friendships were just as important to her as her family. She shared a lifelong bond with her best friend, Sally Lawther, her partner in crime for more than 50 years. Their friendship was built on laughter, loyalty, and countless shared memories, and Sally remains one of the people who knew her best.
More than anything, Chris was proud of her family. She built a life around showing up, staying connected, and loving fiercely. Even in the hardest moments of her illness, she remained strong, kind, and devoted to those she loved.
In keeping with her wishes, Chris donated her body to scientific research, continuing her legacy of generosity in a meaningful way. A celebration of her life is being planned, and details will be shared with family and friends.
She will be remembered for her laughter, her stubborn strength, her love of simple pleasures, and the steady presence she brought to the people around her. Her memory will live on in shared stories, favorite songs, and the quiet, ordinary moments that will always carry her with us.
