Christine Joyce Fehrenkamp (1946-2026)
Christine Joyce Fehrenkamp (nee Schweda), age 79, a resident of New Lenox, IL, formerly of LaGrange Park, IL passed away on February 25, 2026.
She was born in Chicago in 1946 and went on to become a lifelong educator. Christine attended Luther North High School before completing her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Northern Illinois University. She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education and completed her coursework as a PhD candidate in Education.
Chris taught 6th grade science at Cossitt School in LaGrange for many years, and later served as the Director of the Science Center for District 102. She was an Adjunct Faculty at Concordia University Chicago, where she mentored young educators in the classroom. Christine is remembered fondly by countless students and colleagues as a caring influence in the community. She was nominated for a prestigious Golden Apple Award for the state of Illinois, and was the recipient of numerous grants related to her use of technology in her science classes.
A loving mother and cherished friend, Chris was known for her quick wit and humor. She enjoyed a game of bridge, was an avid reader and bookclub member, and loved to dance with her partner Dave, where they were part of the line dancing community at the Willowbrook Ballroom. Chris enjoyed cooking and could often be found exploring new recipes at home and making notes in her cookbooks.
Beloved wife of David for 56 years; loving mother of daughters Sandi (Craig) of Broomfield, CO and Jyl of Chicago, IL, adored grandmother of Paige and Reese. Christine is predeceased in death by her parents Don and Joyce Schweda, brothers Donald, Robert and James. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 11:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church at 1900 E. Lincoln Highway, New Lenox, IL, 60451.
