Celebrating the Life of Christine A. Dove
May 12, 1950 – March 28, 2024
Christine A. Dove – Chris – passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 in her home in Germantown, Maryland at 73 years of age due to heart failure.
A celebration of life will be planned for late May and will be announced soon.
In loving memory of Christine Dove; Chris attended Robert E. Peary High School and later graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1969. In her teens, she was a majorette with a local marching band; and because she had taken some cosmetology classes, she was able to create her beehive updo's with great skill! Chris was a beautiful, humble soul. She loved to play cards – she was skilled in playing Rummy and used the joy stick to play video games. Occasionally, she would go roller skating or would take her grandson, Marquel, who she helped raise, to the local park. Chris started her adult life as a wife, homemaker and mother. She worked in retail, and also worked in the security industry, including working some 20 years to ensure those at Saint Martin’s Church in Gaithersburg were safe and secure.
She often walked to work and to go shopping, or caught mass transit. With homes located nearby the railroad tracks, she often heard the trains rolling past. And, with that in mind, the lyrics to the song, 500 miles, applies here, as we all miss the train she’s on. “If you missed the train I'm on You will know that I am gone, you can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles.”
Though she often led a solitary life in her later years due to health reasons, she loved to be included in family celebrations, from christenings to birthdays, graduations, weddings and the holidays.
She left behind her three children, Scotty (David Scott Bradshaw), Karen Bradshaw and Kelly Bradshaw, seven grandchildren (including David, Hope, Dominique, Kristen, Marquel, and Scotty’s two youngest children), and five great grandchildren; former husband, Larry Bradshaw, and close friend, Raymond Thomas (Chipper). Not to be forgotten are her brothers, Gerry Dove and Joseph Norwood; her sisters, Alice Settle-Raskin, Joyce Burdette, Gloria Carter, Shirley Burdette, and Pearl Payne; the Becraft family, Laura, Shaun, Danielle, Mark, Jyothi and Jai Sri Christina; plus many nieces and nephews, and cousins. In addition, she is survived by one parent, Donald Settle, Sr. and was preceded in death by her mother, the late Shirley Settle and another set of parents - Ethel Harding and Ben Harding - and brothers, Donald Settle, Jr. and John Settle, and cousin, Janice Becraft.
