Chrissy's obituary

Chrissy Marie Connolly-Smith was born in Portland, Maine April 26th, 1987. She was a daughter to Shelley and Mark Giguere, sister to Ashley Connolly, Marcus Giguere, Morgan Giguere, Courtney Connolly and mother to Tatum Lucia Peterson. She was the loving wife to Jason Smith of Mesa, Arizona. Chrissy grew up in Windham, Maine where she and her sister Ashley played field hockey together given their closeness in age. They would use the phrase, “dominated the field together” whenever given the opportunity. Chrissy graduated from Catherine McAuley High School in Portland,Maine.

Chrissy’s family would tell you her personality was larger than life with an appetite for bold moves highlighted by joining the boys wrestling team as a Freshman in High School on a dare from a friend. Oh yes, she stuck it out all season long. Imagine the opposing teams faces when they found out they were wrestling a woman. Chrissy took that bold sense of adventure with her, moving to Arizona at the age of 20. Although, not alone so far from home she had her Grandfather, James Gurney in Paradise Valley and her aunt Sherri Gurney-Montgomery in Peoria for support.

Arizona is where she found the love of her life in Jason Smith. Chrissy’s love for Jason can be summed up with a phrase she coined leading up to their marriage on September 21, 2019, “Future Smith no longer a myth”. To say their marriage was a love story is to sell it short of the connection between them. Chrissy’s devotion to her daughter Tatum was that of loving mother and fierce supporter of all things Tatum. Chrissy would share with you the greatest accomplishment in her life was Tatum.

Chrissy was very well read, and she had a deep love for her country. Although she never served, her grandfather Col. William Giguere served 33 years in the military and inspired her patriotic values as one would often see her with an American flag on her clothes quite often. And then there is Tom Brady and her New England Patriots. Besmirching TB12’s name would mean you were in for the fight of your life with Chrissy. Boston sports was her “thing” and she would debate you until you relented in the loss.

Chrissy Marie Connolly-Smith passed away suddenly on November 1, 2025.She is survived by her daughter Tatum Lucia Peterson and her husband Jason Smith. Tatum’s father Joseph Peterson. Her mother and Father Mark & Shelley Giguere, her sisters Ashley Connolly, Courtney Connolly, Morgan Giguere, and her brother Marcus Giguere. Grandfather James Gurney and Grandmothers Linda Wheelden & Elizabeth Foley and a host of other relatives and friends. Chrissy’s famous phrase was, “I am on vacation”. Yes, you are, and we will meet again….until that joyous day Chrissy.

An 11am celebration of life will be held on November 25th at McDowell Mountain Church 10700 N 124th Street Scottsdale, Arizona. A second celebration of life will be held on December 13th in Maine at a location to be named. In lieu of flowers the family asks to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
