With heavy hearts and deep gratitude, we, the family of Chief Francis S. Agu, announce the peaceful passing on March 24, 2025, at the age of 74, after a brief illness. This loss is felt by his wife and children and the entire Agu and Egwu family in Enugu State. It is a deep and resounding loss to the Enugu State Association, Canada (ESAC), Igbo Union of Canada, the Nigerian community in Toronto, and all who were touched by his kindness, humility, and unwavering sense of duty.
Our beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, brother in-law and friend was a man of strength, humility, and immense integrity. Born in Enugu, Nigeria, to (Dad’s parents name) he attended Standard School Mba’nato in Udenu local government area from where he took G.C.E. exams and entered university. He fought bravely in the Biafra Civil War of 1967 before working in (Law office in Nigeria). His life journey in Nigeria was one of deep connection, faith and progression before he immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 19–(What did he immigrate to Canada?).
He pursued his dreams with unwavering resolve, immigrating to Canada and earning a Master’s degree in Accounting and Economics from York University. His journey was one of resilience and excellence—a story that continues to inspire all who knew him. He began his professional life in Canada in finance and accounting, quickly rising through the ranks to become a Senior Tax Auditor with the Ontario Ministry of Finance. He was known for his fairness, diligence, and mastery of his craft. After an accomplished career in public service, he built a successful tax and accounting practice serving clients across the Greater Toronto Area. To many, he was more than an accountant—he was a trusted advisor, a mentor, and a man of his word.
But beyond his career, it was in his roles as husband and father that his true legacy shone brightest. He was a devoted and loving husband, and a proud father of Chima Agu, Adaora Agu, Nnaemeka Agu, Nnamdi Agu, Ifeanyi Onyekwelu. He raised his children with deep faith, boundless love, and steadfast values that will continue to shape generations to come.
He was also a deeply committed member of the Nigerian-Canadian community, actively involved in numerous organizations including the Igbo Canadian Seniors Association, Catholic Men’s Organization, Nigerian Canadian Association, the Knights of Columbus, and the Enugu State Association of Canada, where he served as a valued patron. His sense of duty, leadership, and community spirit were unwavering.
To know him was to know peace. He had a calming presence, a generous heart, and a quiet wisdom that brought people together. He was a peacemaker, a man who led with kindness and lived by example. His words were thoughtful, his actions deliberate, and his integrity unshakable.
As a family, we are heartbroken by his loss, but we are deeply proud of the life he lived. He gave us everything—his time, his teachings, his laughter, his love. His impact on our lives and the lives of so many others is immeasurable.
We take comfort in knowing he lived with purpose and left a legacy of service, faith, and love. Though he is no longer with us physically, his spirit, values, and light remain forever in our hearts.
Rest well, Daddy. You have earned your crown.
With love and reverence,
The Agu Family
