Cheri's obituary
“Some people only walk this earth for a short time. Their departure reminds us that angels are watching over us."
On the morning of November 12, 2021, Cheryle “Cheri” Scheckler, rejoined her heavenly family and gained her wings after a brief battle with lung cancer at the age of 64.
Cheri (nee’ Boyd/Scholz), born December 17, 1956 in Blue Island, IL, was so many things to so many people. She was a mother, partner, sister, daughter, aunt, and a friend to many. We cannot express our sorrow in her passing.
The Chicago area native had an artistic spirit which was sprinkled throughout everything she did. After receiving her degree in graphic design, she ultimately chose to follow in her mother’s footsteps as a hair stylist, graduating from John Amico School of Hair Design in the 80’s.
Cheri would go on to work for two prominent Chicago salons, The Grand & The Red Door Salon. In addition to her work in the hair industry she also drew, designed and painted several murals, and was a certified interior designer/ stager. She loved to travel, cook, enjoy a glass of Chardonnay, live music, and dancing with her friends.
As the color director for Red Door she was afforded the opportunity to relocate to the East Coast (Darien, CT). It was here that she met and married her husband of fourteen years, Robert Scheckler. In 2020, mid pandemic, the two decided to flea the bitter cold of Northern Winters for the sunny warmth of Florida. Unfortunately, their ability to enjoy a life of pool side lounging was cut short by a diagnosis of stage III lung cancer in July of 2021. Despite the valiant efforts of her medical team the cancer proved more aggressive than their best medical interventions. She passed away with her daughter, best friend, and husband by her side.
Cheri is survived by her husband Robert Scheckler, Daughter Lynzi Scholz, Son Andy (Amy) Scholz, Grandchildren Zachary Scholz, Izabelle Arzaga, Natalie Scholz, and Lily Scholz, Brother David (Jan) Boyd, Sister Stacey (Mark) Martin. Stepchildren Danny Scheckler, Justin (Jamie) Scheckler, and Katie (Anthony) Caruso, as well as nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Ruth Shuga (nee’ Barnes) and father James Boyd.
