Cheryl's obituary
Cheryl Anne Webb-Laughlin
January 14, 1944 – May 1, 2025
Cheryl Anne Webb-Laughlin, 81, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, entering eternal rest with her Savior. She is now joyfully reunited with her parents, John and Audrey Hager; her sister, Chrystal Whitaker; and her son, John.
Born on January 14, 1944, in Pratt, Kansas, Cheryl graduated from Pratt High School in 1962 and attended Kansas State University. She married Tom Webb, and together they had two sons, David and John.
Cheryl began her professional career at NASA, where she worked in astronaut training and had the extraordinary opportunity to assist crew members of the Gemini and Apollo programs. After taking time to raise her children, she returned to the workforce with a passion for helping others. Cheryl dedicated many years to nonprofit leadership, finding deep fulfillment in work that uplifted and empowered those in need.
She was especially proud of her service with the Wichita chapter of the YWCA, where she created and led Project Butterfly—a groundbreaking initiative in partnership with the Wichita Police Department that helped women escape abusive situations and sex trafficking. Cheryl later worked with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), helping resettle refugees from around the world by assisting them with immigration, housing, and employment as they began new lives in the United States.
In 2012, Cheryl married her soulmate, Michael Laughlin. The couple relocated to Cassville, Missouri, in 2013. In her later years, she remained active in service through her local church, St. Thomas à Becket Episcopal Church, where she was a devoted member and served as president of the Missouri chapter of the Daughters of the King. She also volunteered regularly at the community food bank and was a proud member of the Cassville Rotary Club, contributing to various community initiatives.
Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Michael Laughlin of the home; her son, David Webb, and his wife Amy of Wichita, Kansas; her granddaughter, Makayla (Steven) of Andover, Kansas; and five cherished great-grandchildren: Spencer, Truett, Payson, Adalyn, and Kadence.
Her family and community will remember her for her compassion, strength, and lifelong dedication to the well-being of others.
Services will be held at St. Thomas à Becket Episcopal Church in Cassville on Saturday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow at St. Edward Catholic Church in Cassville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Cheryl’s honor may be made to the Cassville Food Bank.
