Cheryl's obituary

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Cheryl Louise Reeser Ruse Stinson, 67, beloved daughter, mother, wife, and grandmother. Cheryl was born September 9, 1956, and departed this world on January 5, 2024. Known to all as an embodiment of love, Cheryl illuminated every room with her vivacious personality and infectious smile.

Cheryl was born in La Mesa to Gerald and Velma Reeser, and resided in East County San Diego for the entirety of her life.  She attended Grossmont High School, class of 1974.  Cheryl was creative, had an eye for design, and a gift caring for others.  Bringing joy through her ability to make things beautiful, listen with a whole heart, and nurture, Cheryl’s early career positions included floral design, teaching, sales, and senior activities planning. Cheryl also staged beautiful homes in San Diego and owned and operated her own businesses.

Cheryl greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and connecting with friends. She loved the ocean, quality cuisine, and making lasting memories. She was deeply committed to equality and compassion, and held hippie ideals of peace and love.

After courageously battling skin cancer this fall, Cheryl received a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer on December 15.  She passed after being surrounded by loved ones, and in the presence of her sons, at Sharp Grossmont Hospital.

Cheryl is survived by her husband and partner of over twenty years Ed Stinson, as well as her elder sister Terrie Billuni.  She also leaves a lasting legacy in her sons, Joshua and Gabriel Ruse, who will continue cherishing her teachings on how to love deeply and unconditionally and pass on those lessons to her four beloved grandchildren, Judah, Novalee, Elliana, and Elon.

A remembrance and celebration of life service open to all family and friends will be held on February 17, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Flood Church, 4772 Alvarado Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92120.

Although Cheryl's light has dimmed in the physical world, her example of loving well and embracing the joy in life remains with us, keeping her spirit alive.
