Cheryl's obituary

We mourn the loss of Cheryl "Tina" Poellinetz, who left us on May 11, 2024. Born on August 5, 1970, Cheryl was widely known and loved by her friends and family, showing a vibrant personality that was truly unparalleled. Best known as Tina, this nickname signaled her passion for individuality and self-expression.

Cheryl leaves a lasting legacy through her beloved children, Cordiah Hayes and Jayson Gregory, who were the shining lights of her life. She was predeceased by her dear aunts Cheryl Poellinetz (after whom she was named), Glenda Smith and grandmother Mae Cell Smith and is survived by her parents, Betty Stidhum and Carnell Poellinetz, her sisters, Tonja Stidhum and Tiana Poellinetz, as well as her former partners, Abdul Gregory, and Eric Jackson.

An accomplished academic, Cheryl graduated from three different universities. In 1998, she obtained an Associate Degree from Olive-Harvey College, followed by a B.A. in Journalism, with an emphasis in Public Relations, from Northern Illinois University in 2003. She later completed her education with a Paralegal Certificate from Roosevelt University in 2018. Professionally, Cheryl proudly served at DLA Piper from September 4, 2007 to February 22, 2009.

With a lively palette for life, Cheryl's favorite foods ranged from Thanksgiving dressing to BBQ ribs, always paired with a Pepsi or Don Julio. An avid reader, her favorite books included James Baldwin's classic novel 'If Beale Street Could Talk,'  'Invisible Man' by Ralph Ellison, and 'The Autobiography of Malcolm X', by Alex Haley. Furthermore, she often enjoyed these literary classics alongside her favorite music from artists like Anita Baker and Tupac Shakur. A visual arts fan, Cheryl admired Jean Michel-Basquiat's works and expressed her love for sports through her support for the Golden State Warriors and the Chicago Bulls.

Known for her wit and intellect, Cheryl's outgoing and extroverted nature was admired by many. Her life lessons, including "keeping your head up" and "never forgetting where you came from", were potent reminders of her introspective wisdom. Her noteworthy accomplishments include her three collegiate degrees and the lovingly nurtured growth of her two children.

With her favorite color being red, Cheryl lived a vibrant life, laughing, barbecuing, and doting on her children. Her power walks, favorite game 'Jeopardy', and trips to Cancun showcased her love for activity. A strong advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement, Cheryl found joy in blogging and frequenting local places like Fun Friday's at Tommy's, demonstrating her beautiful and lively spirit.

Cheryl's legacy is one of creativity, love, and the freedom to be oneself in a complex world, and she will be greatly missed by her children, parents, immediate family, and friends. As we say our farewells, we honor Cheryl for the exceptional life she led and the unforgettable memories she leaves us with.
