Cheryl's obituary
Cheryl Lynnette Phillips passed away on April 11, 2026, at the age of 62 in Jackson, Mississippi. She was born in Jackson, Mississippi, where she also spent much of her life.
Cheryl was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life revolved around her family. She shared her life with her husband, James Earl Phillips, Sr., and together they raised their children and created a close-knit family that will carry her memory forward.
Known to her children as “Ema,” Cheryl had a deep love for her family and found comfort in the things she enjoyed most. She loved crocheting, creating art, and spending time with those closest to her. The care she showed and the quiet moments she valued are memories her family will continue to hold close.
She was the daughter of Eugene Bell and the late Gloria Jean Brown.
She is survived by her loving children: Latoriya Ida Phillips (Marques Phillips), James Earl Phillips, Jr., Lashanda Jeanet Phillips, Lakiesha Janel Phillips, Mariah Keyana Phillips, Michal Willie Sumerall (Isaiah Sumerall III), and Seth Jamel Phillips (fiancée Jasmine G.).
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Katelyn Lynnette Phillips, Micaiah Jada Sumerall, Isaac Lee Sumerall, and Ilijah Isaiah Sumerall. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jada Michal Phillips.
Cheryl is also survived by her brother, Charles M. Brown; her sister-in-law, Wyvette L. Walker; and her niece, Latrecia J. Walker. She was preceded in death by her brother, Christopher Brown.
In accordance with her wishes, Cheryl will be cremated, and no formal services will be held.
Her memory will remain in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
