Cherie's obituary

Cheryl (Cherie) Knooihuisen, born June 19, 1947, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on June 7, 2023. A selfless spirit known for her bright smile, inspiring faith, and unwavering optimism, Cherie is survived and greatly missed by her adoring son Mike; brother, Bill (Sue); nieces and nephews Nikki (Pat), Andy, Tim (Eryca); grand-nephew Luke and "fairy" goddaughter Zoe, as well as cherished friends and cousins, including her dear friend Ali (David). She joins her mother Lucille, cousin and best friend Linda, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in Heaven. Known for her 25 years of service to Grand Rapids Public Schools, most recently as a media specialist at Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy, Cherie was beloved by students and staff alike for her sweet nature and passion for reading stories to the kids. As we mourn her loss, those she leaves behind can take solace in knowing they have an extraordinary guardian angel watching over them. Services to honor Cherie’s life will be held at St. Alphonsus Parish Community on Tuesday, June 20. A visitation will be held from 10 - 11 a.m., immediately followed by a funeral service and luncheon. In lieu of flowers, an optional donation to cover expenses and other needs for Cherie's family may be made online, or in person during the visitation.
