Cheryl's obituary

Cheryl Denise Smith, 67, of Paris, Texas, passed away on October 1, 2023. She was born on September 28, 1956, in Ashdown, Arkansas, to the late Billy and Lela West. Cheryl was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Cheryl, also known as Necie, was a sweet, loving, and kind-hearted individual. She was a dedicated provider and caregiver, always putting the needs of others before her own. Cheryl's nurturing and selfless nature endeared her to all who knew her.

Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Cecil R. Smith, and their children: Tarmecia, Sheketta, Shantayla, Veronica, Shalunda Joshua (Bobby), Marquita, Cecil Jr., Corey, Antowine, and Curtney. She also has several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several bonus children whom she loved and adored. Cheryl was preceded in death by her grandmother, Edna Sims; her parents, Billy and Lela West; her brothers and sisters, George Gains, Linda Jeffery, Tommy West, and Adam West. Her grandchildren Tyrone Smith, Cordia Smith, Logan Joshua, and Aaliyah Brown also preceded her in death.

Cheryl attended Paris High School and later pursued higher education at Paris Junior College. She dedicated her career to serving others and working at Bonham VA Hospital, Paris Nursing Home, and Honey Grove Nursing Home. Cheryl's compassion and dedication positively impacted the lives of many.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoyed reading, listening to R&B and Gospel music, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to create lasting memories with her loved ones.

She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Paris, where she found solace and strength in her faith.

Funeral service for Cheryl Denise Smith will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at St. Paul Baptist Church located at 444 2nd St. NE, Paris, Texas 75460, under the direction of Maxey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairland-LittleJohn Cemetery.
