Cheryl's obituary

Cheryl Ann Chyzyk (née Cook) passed away on June 30, 2023, in Calgary, surrounded by her loving family.

Cheryl was born on March 2, 1951, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Roberta and Jack Cook. She had a passion for swimming and spent her youth as a competitive swimmer, always cherishing her love for the water. Cheryl also enjoyed spending quality time at her family's cabin at Pike Lake, playing cards and creating lasting memories.

As an adult, Cheryl developed a deep passion for travel. One of her first big adventures was to visit her sister Janet and brother-in-law Ken in New Zealand. Prior to leaving Saskatoon , she met a young man named John. Once Cheryl departed, John couldn't bear to be apart from her and decided to follow her to New Zealand . They spent the next few years traveling the world together, creating unforgettable experiences. Eventually, Cheryl and John returned to Canada and got married on July 24, 1976.

Cheryl and John relocated their family from Saskatoon, Northern Alberta and Brandon before finally establishing themselves in Calgary in 1996. Along the way, they created numerous unforgettable memories and forged incredible friendships.

Cheryl was a selfless and devoted mother to her children Sarah, Benjamin, and Mathew. Her strength, resilience, and genuine love were evident in everything she did. She believed in supporting her children wholeheartedly, ensuring they knew they were deeply loved. In 1982, Cheryl's son Ben was born with Down syndrome. She fearlessly fought for him to have the same opportunities as other children, advocating for his integration and embracing the privilege of being his mom.

One of Cheryl's remarkable qualities was making everyone around her feel important and loved. Her home was always open to friends and family who needed a place to go during holidays. In 2018, she became a mother-in-law to José and a grandmother to a beautiful little girl named Shelby, bringing even more joy to her life.

Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, Roberta and Jack, but she leaves behind a loving family. She is survived by her husband John, daughter Sarah, sons Benjamin and Mathew (with José), and her granddaughter Shelby. Cheryl is also survived by her siblings Joan (Dan), Janet (Ken), and Mike (Cheryl), as well as her brother-in-law Jim (Dorothy) and sisters-in-law Helen (Jim) and Pat. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews, who will continue to cherish her memory.

To honor Cheryl Chyzyk's memory, the family kindly requests donations in her name to be made to Inclusion Alberta. You can make a donation at the following link: [https://inclusionalberta.org/…. A celebration of Cheryl's life will be announced at a later date.
