Cheryl's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cheryl Ann Bartels. After a brief battle with cancer, she passed in her home and departed to be with the Lord on January 8, 2024, at the age of 69.
Cheryl was born the eldest of four on September 16, 1954 in Napa, California where she grew up and graduated from Napa High School. In 1979, she married Curtis Fong and embarked on her journey in Nevada, where she built her career, became an expert skier and raised her two children, Matthew and Erin Fong. In 2003, she met Marshall Bartels, who proposed to her on Valentine's Day. They tied the knot on May 4th of that same year and spent 21 years together, eventually relocating to their beautiful home in Montana.
Cheryl was an amazing, beautiful, loving, and devoted wife. As a mother, she was fun-loving and actively involved in her children’s lives, creating memorable birthday cakes, crafting special Halloween costumes, and known to pull a few pranks on April Fool's Day. In her professional life, she served as an executive assistant for many years, utilizing her exceptional organizational skills to accomplish complex tasks and receiving multiple awards and honors. Cheryl was hardworking, energetic, strong, protective, mischievous with an infectious laugh, helpful, caring, loyal, and faithful to her family.
She had a creative spirit and a deep love for Spring and Summer, where she joyfully engaged in gardening, whether tending to her flower garden or cultivating vegetables. Beyond her passion for gardening, Cheryl was steadfast in her faith and had a heart for God. Her greatest desire was for those she knew and loved to also experience the love of Christ.
Cheryl is survived by her husband Marshall Bartels, children Matthew Fong & fiancé Justine Potter, Erin Fong & fiancé Tyler McPherron, stepchildren Jason & Amy Jo Bartels, Janene Waldburger, Gina Bartels, grandchildren Wednesday Bartels-Andrews, Willow Bartels, & Dellta Waldburger and ex-husband Curtis Fong.
