Charmion's obituary
Charmion Jean Van Drie, known as Char to us all,
Lived a life full of love, standing proud, standing tall.
Born near Greeley on a fine autumn day,
With music and laughter she made her own way.
She played clarinet and she played the game,
Won a free-throw contest and earned her name.
She taught little children with patience and cheer,
For sixty-seven wonderful, wonderful years.
She married her Dutch, Gerhardt Van Drie,
A match made in heaven, as happy could be.
They traveled through Iowa, Arizona’s bright skies,
Then settled where El Segundo’s warm ocean lies.
She snipped little clippings and mailed funny notes,
She treasured good recipes, poems, and quotes.
She fed every guest who came by her door,
And laughed with a twinkle — oh, how we adore!
She loved peonies, lilacs, red cardinals too,
Big books and potlucks, and her Angels (the crew!).
She cheered for her teams, and she cared for her friends,
Her heart had no borders, no distance, no end.
Most of all Char walked with the Lord every day,
Her faith was a light that showed others the way.
She taught us to live with good humor and grace,
And now she’s at peace in a beautiful place.
She’s joined once again with her loved ones above:
Her husband, dear Dutch, and Jeanine, full of love.
Her parents, Harlan and Lou, paved the way,
And many more family in heaven today.
She leaves behind joy and the people she raised —
Gary, and Mary, and Alan — all praised.
Grandchildren Jamie, Kyle, Christy, and LX,
And great-grands Rae, Sophie, and Layne are next!
Her sisters Joann and dear Wanda stay near,
Along with nieces and nephews she held so dear.
Come say goodbye on the nineteenth of April,
At noon for the viewing, with hugs by the barrel.
The service will follow at two-thirty sharp,
At El Segundo Church — come with joy in your heart.
If you can’t join us there, tune in from afar,
On YouTube you’ll find her — just click on the star!
More info, more memories, and recipes too,
At everloved.com — a tribute for you.
A quick RSVP would help with the spread —
So we have enough cookies and punch to be fed!
But come as you are, with a story or song,
To celebrate Char, where she’s danced all along.
