Charlotte's obituary
It’s with profound sadness that we share the passing of Charlotte Jeanne Corby Ray, who left us on November 14, 2024, at the age of 78.
Born on September 28, 1946, Charlotte was a light in this world whose warmth and wisdom touched everyone she met. She was not just a beloved mother to Kendall Shearman, but a cherished wife to Marshall Wayne Ray for over 55 years, a devoted sister to Nancy Heath, a proud grandmother and mother-in-law to Richard, Ellie, and Benjamin Shearman, a caring aunt, and a cherished friend to many.
Charlotte was a woman of endless curiosity and determination. After graduating from McMurray University with a degree in Biology, she forged her own path, first as a lab technician and later as a computer programmer. When she stepped into the role of bookkeeper for Southwest Fluid Products Inc., the business her husband built, she brought the same dedication to their shared dreams.
But Charlotte’s true legacy lies in the love and faith she poured into her family and her community. She was a cornerstone of her church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, and a member of numerous committees. She had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued, and her faith was reflected in her kindness and grace.
Charlottes’s heart was full of adventure. With Wayne by her side, she traveled to over 30 countries. Together, they built a cabin in Colorado—a place that became a haven of love and laughter for friends and family. Her love for her pets and her joy in spending time with her grandchildren were unmatched. Her laughter, wisdom, and unshakable strength will always stay with us.
Her memory will continue as the heartbeat of her family and they are grateful for every lesson, every moment, every hug. They will endeavor to carry that love forward and to live a life that honors the incredible person she was.
Charlotte Ray’s extraordinary life will be celebrated in a service at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian church on December 7th, 2024 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to St. Stephens, as she would have loved to continue giving even in her absence.
