Charlotte's obituary
Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Charlotte Morgan Lovekin died unexpectedly after a short illness on February 14, 2022. Her husband and five adult children were able to say goodbye before she passed.
Charlotte was born on January 17th, 1944, to Charlotte Morgan Murphy and William Jeremiah Murphy. She has three sisters (Maureen Aba, Mary Pat Slater and Jeri Gordon). Charlotte was born in New York City and raised in New Canaan, Connecticut. She is a graduate of Manhattanville College in Purchase New York with a degree in Art History.
Charlotte had three children with her first husband, Michael, Amanda and Patrick Casey. After her divorce, she married Howard Pokorny. They had one child together, Ali-Shaun. The Pokorny family moved to Houston Texas in 1985. Howard passed away in 1992. Charlotte married Charles Lovekin in 1994. Charles and Charlotte adopted a child together, Jingyi in 1998.
As an adult Charlotte engaged in an examination of the faith into which she was born. In Houston, she pursued Rite of Catholic Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and found a faith home at the Newman Catholic Student Center serving the Texas Medical Center and Rice University. There she met a vibrant faith community supported by adults from the immediate neighborhood and beyond and rekindled her faith in Christ through the Roman Catholic Church.
Charlotte and Charles moved to Vashon Island in 1997. They found a wonderful community at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Charlotte became involved in teaching faith formation, and she loved to go for long walks, gardening and hosting family and friends in her beautiful home on Vashon Island. In the last few years, Charlotte and Charles split their time between Vashon Island and Houston.
Even with the restrictions of the pandemic over the last two years, Charlotte made concerted efforts to stay connected and engaged with her faith and her family spread across the country. Charlotte was loved by her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She remained close to her children throughout her life and had wonderful connections with her grandchildren.
Charlotte’s life was defined by her love of her faith, family and friends. She is survived by her sisters, Maureen, Jeri and Mary Pat; her beloved husband Charles, her five children, Michael, Amanda, Patrick Casey, Ali-Shaun and Jingyi; her six grandchildren, Max, Justin, Aidan, Liam, Anderson and Abigail.
A memorial for Charlotte’s life will take place in Houston, Texas on March 3rd. A funeral service for her will take place on Vashon Island at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church on April 23rd.
