Background
My sister Charlotte died suddenly and unexpectedly on the morning of August 24. She was in a nursing home/rehab center and scheduled to return home on August 31. I visited her on Tuesday, August 23, and we met with the facility's social worker to make all of the final arrangements for my sister's safe return home. Shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, my sister called me to say she wasn't feeling well, and with her still on the phone, I immediately called the facility's main number and asked the nurse to check on my sister. Shortly thereafter, 911 was called and mere moments later, I received word that she had lost consciousness. An hour later I was told my sister had died as paramedics were unable to revive her.
Our family is devastated. Instead of celebrating with Charlotte her return home, we are now making arrangements for her funeral.
Many of you have reached out to offer support and asked what can you do for us, how can you contribute, or just what do we need. We are truly blessed to have each of you in our lives and deeply appreciate these unconditional gestures of love, assistance, generosity, and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, baskets, or other heart-filled gestures, we are asking for donations to help us with the cost of Charlotte's funeral expenses. We want to honor and celebrate her life and the amazing person she was. Donations will be used primarily for the funeral services and any donations received above her funeral costs will be donated to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
We are extremely grateful for all your kindness and expressions of sympathy as our family navigates its way through this difficult moment in our lives.
