On Monday, October 31, 2022 Charlie was taken to the vet for a routine dental cleaning and extractions, but it was discovered she had a large tumor which would have to be removed; the vet made know that she would not live more than 6 months to a year and that her quality of life would be changed significantly. The decision was made since Charlie was already under anesthesia to let her die peacefully. This was a great shock to us and it has been such an incredibly hard week.
Charlie came into our lives in 2010, and it was then that we really became a family. She was there when Curtis and I got engaged, when we got married, when we brought Mila and then Fredrik home from the hospital, as we moved from Texas to Arkansas, and countless other of our lives events. She watched us grow up, watched us become a family, and was always there to provide warmth and comfort.
When the kids were newborns, Charlie would often lie next to their bassinet anytime they slept, and peek in on them anytime they stirred. Any time I was upset and crying Charlie would come stand awkwardly close with her face next to mine and make her strange little grunt, then press her face into me; it would always make me smile and feel a little better.
The house already feels emptier without her presence and I know it will be a long time before that space gets filled.

She was the goodest dog, and is already sorely missed.
