Charles "Charlie" Harrison Stubbs of Canton, Texas passed away on January 9, 2026, in Tyler, Texas. He was born on January 24, 1943, in Dallas to Maggie Key and Garf Wright, but when he was three years old, he was adopted by his parents, Harrison and Willie Lou Stubbs of Sulphur Springs. He grew up in the Arbala community, and he looked back fondly on his years there, his friendships, and all his memories. He attended Sulphur Springs High School, and was a member of the Class of 1961. He married his high school sweetheart, Anita Friddle, and they celebrated their 65th anniversary this past November 26. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons and one daughter: Tony Stubbs (Debra) of Mt. Vernon, Texas and Shannon Stubbs (Amy) of Poteau, Oklahoma, and Terri Loper (Roger) of Canton, Texas.

Five grandchildren: Charlye Stubbs, Ruston Frazier and partner, Robyn, Zachary Stubbs (Katie), Macy Frazier-Hagmann (Hunter), and Peyton Stubbs Woodral (Hunter). Five great-grandchildren: Ashton Frazier, Lynlee Stubbs, Hayes Woodral, Hudson Woodral, and Boone Stubbs.

He was a builder and electrician by trade. After retirement, he built his and Anita's home in Canton, as well as his daughter's and granddaughter's homes. He was a musician, loved nothing more than playing guitars and singing with family and friends. His interests were varied and many, yet he derived the most joy from simple things. He enjoyed landscaping, all yard work and spent every day outside working, weather permitting. His energy seemed boundless. He raked leaves and cleaned out the flower bed the day before he left us. He was a fan of movies, especially sci-fi and the black and white classics of the forties and fifties.

He was truly one of a kind. He was by nature a sweet, gentle man. He loved helping people, all you had to do was let him know you needed him. He grabbed all the gusto he could out of the time he was given, living in every moment, savoring every day in his own way. Anita and his children, his grand and great grandchildren were his life, and he loved his little canine friend, Olli, who came to visit every day for his treat. He got much pleasure from his friends, including his Facebook friends, who are many; Charlie Stubbs was a much loved man.

There was  no formal service. The family held a  private celebration of life memorial  on February 21 in Tyler at Happy's Fish House for family and friends.
