Charlie, as he was known by friends, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 22, 1948, to Charles Albert and Mary Ruth as the fifth of twelve children. Known to family as “Butch,” he grew up in California, Ohio as a spirited kid with a knack for harmless mischief, quick wit, and an enterprising spirit.
