Charlie's obituary
Charles Raymond Mouquin, Jr. was 87 when he passed away on July 29th after complications following a significant stroke one year ago.
Charlie was born on December 21st, 1935, to Charles Raymond Mouquin and Clotilde Neafsey in Glen Cove, New York. He grew up learning to hunt and sail with his father. He followed his father’s footsteps, joining the military, serving in the 82nd Airborne division of the US Army as a paratrooper.
After Charlie graduated from New Hampton Preparatory Academy in New Hampshire he attended Colgate University. He worked many years as a manager in food processing plants for Howard Johnsons before beginning a second career away from the corporate world, as a sought-after wallpaper hanger.
In 1960 Charlie married Joan Marie Imperiali. They had two daughters Stephanie Michelle and Jennifer Elaine. Stephanie married Robert Adam and had two children, Bradley, and Grace. Jennifer married Marc Carbone and had two children, Maximillian, and Julia.
Charlie was always active. He was an excellent skier and golfer. He competed annually, with his best friend Bobby Healy, in the “Gin and Tonic Invitational Golf Tournament”. He loved being outside and would spend hours tending to his prolific vegetable garden or thoughtfully landscaped mixed garden. He took great pride in his home and yard. Charlie loved the beach and enjoyed bodysurfing in the waves. He enjoyed hiking and canoeing. He could name the species of almost any plant or bird that he came across. In his retirement, he and Joan moved to Tellico Village, a golfing community in Loudon, Tennessee. There he was blessed to have many great neighbors to chat with, play golf or enjoy a game of pool. Charlie and Joan also enjoyed traveling to Italy and many of our national parks.
Joan and Charlie loved to entertain family and friends, hosting dinner parties with excellent food, drink, and conversation well into the night.
Charlie was an amazing brother to his sister, Chloe Buddenhagen. They would talk frequently on the phone. He was always there for her with sound advice or just to debate the latest news. Chloe and Charlie enjoyed many vacations together in Florida along with their spouses, Joan and Bill.
Charlie was an involved parent. He enjoyed playing ball with Jen and taking Stephanie to dinner and dancing at the Country Club. He would sit through swim meets or soccer games in the hot sun. He taught his children the value of a dollar, how to use tools, do yard work and mow the lawn. He was a role model for appreciating a hard day’s work.
As Charlie was not a religious man, there will be no funeral services. To celebrate his passion for life we ask family and friends scattered near and far to enjoy a good meal and a quality drink of their choice and remember the good times they had with him.
Special thanks go to the incredibly team at the Village at Buckland Court, who loved and cared for Charlie (and put up with his antics) during this last year and for the great communication and support form his visiting nurses from the hospice team at Masonicare.
