Charles's obituary
Charles “Chuck” Dennis Morrison Jr., 63, of Bolingbrook, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 22, 2023. He was born in Chicago, IL, to Lillian “Love” (Wilbon) Morrison and Charles Morrison Sr. on October 21, 1959. Chuck grew up in the West Chatham neighborhood of Chicago’s South Side with his sisters, Anita and Brenda, and many friends that remained lifelong. He attended Hookway Elementary School and Leo Catholic High School (Class of 1977) where he lettered in wrestling and played trombone in the band.
Chuck attended Kentucky State University (KSU) where he was a member of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corp and was active with both student government and the school newspaper while pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. In the spring of 1979, Chuck pledged the Majestic Psi Psi Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. “Savage Que” immediately had a nationwide network of frat brothers that he would connect with for the rest of his life, and he made numerous lifelong friends on the yard.
Upon his graduation in 1981, Chuck reported to Fort Campbell, KY as an officer in the U.S. Army with the goal of being an Aviator which he achieved soon after arriving. Over the next 8 years, Chuck was a helicopter pilot, earned a promotion to Captain in 1985, and toured Europe while stationed in Germany for several years.
After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Chuck returned home to Chicago and shortly after met Abbie (and son Sean), moved to Bolingbrook, married in 1993, and began their family. Chuck had a 25-year career at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory’s Security Department where he served as the Security Operations Supervisor and most recently headed up the development of their Aviation program for site management. He was an involved member and volunteer in his community with the Bolingbrook Police Department and The American Legion, and he coached youth sports teams. Chuck had many interests and hobbies, of which riding motorcycles and fishing were his favorites. He was also a movie buff and loved spending time outdoors and with his dogs.
Chuck was a devoted husband and father who had a great sense of humor and relished the opportunity to put a smile on someone’s face. He is survived by his loving wife Abbie (Corcoran); his sons, Sean (Brittany) Conley and Charles Morrison III and daughter Courtney Morrison; his grandson Miles Conley; his sisters, Anita Morrison and Brenda Sesay; his nephew Donte Lewis and niece Mabinty Sesay; his Aunt Linda (Cecil) Parker and Aunt Lorraine Floyd; and many more loving relatives and close friends.
