Charles's obituary

Charles L. McPherson
April 1, 1943 – January 19, 2025

Charles “Chuck” McPherson, 81, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on January 19, 2025. He was born on April 1, 1943, in Big Rapids, Michigan, where he was raised on a farm. As a young man, he longed for the excitement of city life and moved to Brooklyn, New York, in the early 1960s, where he was self employed, before joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1964. He proudly served for close to six years.

Shortly after completing his service, Chuck married Janet Aberle (née Matranga) on August 13, 1968. He went on to work as a Telephone Installation Technician for various spinoffs of Bell Telephone. His career took him and Janet from New York to Seattle, then to New Jersey, and eventually to Richmond, Virginia, where they made their long time home.

Chuck was a passionate lover of life who found joy in gardening, yoga, kayaking, and traveling. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Jan; his stepson, Gary Aberle; and his sisters, Mary Jane and Alice McPherson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Risa, and his brother, John.

Chuck’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
