Charles's obituary
Charles M. Jackson, Jr., 76 years old, affectionately known as “C.J.”, passed peacefully in his sleep on June 3, 2024, at his home in Norwalk, California.
Charles was born on July 1, 1947, in Lafayette, Louisiana. Charles accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was educated in the Public School System of New Iberia, Louisiana and graduated from Jonas Henderson High School in New Iberia, Louisiana.
Charles joined the United States Navy in June 1966, he served our country with honor for 26 years. He retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer (CPO) in June 1992 and resided in Long Beach, California after retirement. He was most proud of the time spent in the military and often talked about his honorable experiences. He was employed by the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California for 17 years. He worked in management and his leadership skills were infectious in the workplace. He was admired and respected by his superiors and co-workers at the aquarium.
Charles was a family-oriented man who enjoyed family and who prioritized his family needs before his own, especially when it came to making important decisions. He loved bowling, the NFL Houston Texans football team, traveling, cooking, gospel and R&B music.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Jackson, Sr. and Olivia Raymond Perro; sister, Mary Nell Raymond Roman; stepfather, Bishop Ernest Perro; stepbrothers, Bishop Ordie Perro, Sr., Chester Perro, Elder Sidney Perro, Sr., and Wilfred Perro; stepsisters, Ernestine Dorsey, Merecedes Lockett, and Romanella Depremont.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Gayle A. Jackson; devoted son, Charles M. (Brianna) Jackson, III of Vancouver, Washington; devoted stepson, Keith Avant of Norwalk, California; stepdaughter, Kimberly Allen of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; one brother, Kenneth (Cassandra) Raymond of New Iberia, Louisiana; two stepbrothers, Rev. Isaiah Perro, Sr. of New Iberia, Louisiana and Rev. Ezekiel Perro of Stone Mountain, Georgia; four grandchildren, Makiya and Maliya Jackson of Seattle, Washington, Jaiz Aduka and Cavin Mattson of Vancouver, Washington; two great grandchildren; three nieces, Yolanda Roman of Atlanta, Georgia, Sheryl (Ted) Basiste and Thelma (Norbert) Roman Gedward of New Iberia, Louisiana; a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. A special thanks to the host of close family members, military friends, neighbors, and co-workers that loved and cherish him for many years. Our sincere gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff during his care at Long Beach Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, California.

Private Celebration - Scattering Ashes at Sea Ceremony on the Pacific Ocean will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11:30 a.m.
