age 81 , of Westwego, Louisiana Charles passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1 2022. He was born in Vicksburg , Mississippi, the third of 11 children of the late Roy Jefferson and the late Altoria Robinson. Charles was raised in Vicksburg where he graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1957. He was an outstanding athlete during his school years and was known as a premier basketball player in the Hook area. Charles moved to New Orleans, Louisiana shortly after finishing high school. He started out as a grocery bagger at a Schwegmann's grocery store, quickly working his way up to the supervisor of the "bag boys". He held various other position for the grocery store chain over 25 years. Eventually, Charles went to work at an A&P grocery store as a warehouse worker. It was at this store that he began his lifelong career as a truck driver. After hauling meat for A&P grocery stores for a few years, Charles eventually spent more than 35 years as a driver for Evans Cooperage in Harvey, Louisiana, driving both regionally and, later, as an owner-operator. During his tenure as a truck driver, Charles drove trucks with eight of his twenty-two children , six of whom followed his example and embarked on their own driving careers. Charles was a man of great faith in the Lord and was an active member in his churches over the years, singing in the choir and serving in various leaderships roles. As a child, he joined Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Sandy Hook, MS. After moving to New Orleans, LA, Charles joined Second Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as member of the Board of Trustees and deacon for 45 years. At the end of his life, Charles was a member and the head deacon of Ephesus Missionary Baptist Church in Westwego, Louisiana.
He was survived by all 22 of his children , 89 grandchildren & 18 great grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed.
