He graduated from Bass High School in Atlanta and went on to earn his BBA in Business Management from Georgia State University. He earned this degree while being employed full time and serving in the United States Army Reserves.
He began work at an early age in order to help support his family who had lost their father at age 47. Starting when a junior in high school, he worked for Southern Motor Carriers Rate Conference, continuing after high school until he was employed by Southern Railway as an auditor. After 20 years with Southern Railway, he joined First National Bank of Atlanta which eventually became Wells Fargo Bank. He retired after 20 years in banking.
He was a member of First Baptist Church Atlanta where he served on its Evangelism Explosion team before retiring to Anderson, SC.
His greatest interests were in serving his God and being with his adored family. He enjoyed gardening, railroading, bird watching, reading, and coin and stamp collecting. During his last years, he spent hours listening to the music he loved and sitting on the front porch of his home laughing with and talking to anyone who stopped by.
A memorial service will be held on October 26, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Bowersville Baptist Church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
