Chuck's obituary
Charles “Chuck” Price Harman III, 82, of San Diego County, California, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025 in the presence of loved ones at home. A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, Chuck will be remembered for his sharp wit, hearty chuckle, and steadfast love for those closest to him.
Born on April 12, 1943, in Portland, Oregon, Chuck was the son of Charles Harman II and Ruth Harman. He grew up surrounded by a strong sense of family and community, traits he carried throughout his life. He called many places home as his father’s civil engineering career necessitated many moves throughout the country. A talented athlete, Chuck lettered in football, basketball, and baseball during high school and remained a passionate sports enthusiast into his later years.
In 1961, Chuck married the love of his life, Marilyn “Sue” Rodgers, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, beginning a partnership that would span more than six decades. He attended Boise State University and then graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1965 with a degree in electrical engineering—a field that perfectly suited his keen intellect and curiosity.
He began his professional journey in avionics with Honeywell in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was a longtime resident of Roseville, Minnesota and enjoyed many activities including softball, skiing, and coaching youth football.
He later joined TRW in San Diego County, California, which then became Northrop Grumman. He retired in 2007 after years of dedicated service and innovation. He and Sue enjoyed living in the San Diego County City of Poway and remained friends with his colleagues.
Beyond his professional achievements, Chuck was known for his love of sailing, running, skiing, and spending time with family. He also participated in marathons and the Spartan Man race. His amused smile and quiet strength brought comfort and joy to those who knew him.
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; his daughters, Elizabeth Harman (Richard Acello) and Catherine Eiler (John Eiler); his son, Charles Harman IV; his granddaughter, Claire Eiler; his sister, Carolyn Scott; and his beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Chuck’s family will remember him always for his humor, generosity, and unwavering spirit. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
