Charles R. Greenhouse died in Sarasota, Florida, on May 25. He was born in New York City, the only son of Charles A. Greenhouse, a physician, and the former Anna Raynes. Greenhouse grew up in the Bronx and graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School at age 15. He then spent one year at Horace Mann School.
