Charles's obituary
Charles Ellwood Butler, 85, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 in Fruitport, MI after a recent illness. Charlie was born July 31, 1938 to Charles and Marjorie Butler in New York City. After graduating from Manhasset High School, Charlie went on to earn a degree in Economics from Dartmouth College in 1960.
Upon graduation, Charlie began his career in finance entering GE's Financial Management Program. Charlie held the position of Chief Financial Officer and V.P. of Finance with various companies throughout his career. While employed by MSI Data Sciences he served as the company’s General Manager of European Operations. After residing in Belgium for a period of time, he returned to California as MSI’s V.P. of International Marketing. Later he accepted a position with a company taking him back to Long Island and on to Rhode Island. In 1993, he returned to Phoenix, Arizona for a second time.
In 1961, Charlie married his first wife, Donna Riccinto with whom he had a son. Charlie went on to have two daughters with his second wife, Carol Bowen, after marrying in 1978. Through Classmates, Charlie reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Penny. He moved to Clarendon Hills, Illinois in 2013 and he and Penny were married in 2016. In late 2023 he moved to Michigan to be closer to his son due to health issues.
Charlie loved all sports and often coached his son’s baseball teams and his daughters in soccer. He enjoyed playing board games and poker at family gatherings. He loved animals and enjoyed quite an assortment of critters while his daughters were growing up.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Penny in 2020. He is survived by his sister Cindy (George) Wittenberg, by his children Chris (Suzanne) Butler and their daughter Andrea, Danielle (Joe) Feole and their son, Joey, and Aimee (Steven) Armendariz and their daughter, Morgan.
