Charles's obituary
Charles Calvin Briggs, 74 years old known to many as (Charlie), passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025. Surrounded by his family. He was a kind-hearted and a gentle soul who touched the lives of many by simply being himself, quiet, easygoing and deeply compassionate about his loved ones.
He was born October 12, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois to the parents of Hurriah John Briggs and Luverta Briggs He attended Chicago's public schools and Parker high school. Also, he studied automobile mechanics, at Chicago vocational technology school. Throughout his life, Charles worked hard, never one to complain nor ask for more than he needed. He carried himself with a quiet dignity, always doing what needed to be done without seeking validation from others. Those who knew of him admired his reliability, humility, and unwavering work ethics.
In his early years, he enjoyed roller skating, fishing , working on automobiles, watching tv, and hanging out with friends and family. He loved female companions, was quite the charm and very kind hearted. He was a great big brother very protective of his kids, and loved them dearly. The sound of their voice would make him smile.
Charles's career concluded in 1984, after many years of service at the H.L. Lyons Company. His life was full of joy and humor, and it was reflected in his hobbies, fishing, going to base ball games, and hanging out on the farms . Charles loved a good Hamburger with fries, a cool Pepsi, Jazz music, the excitement of a Chicago Bulls game and the thrill of old western movies. His favorite color was blue.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Mother (Luverta ) Briggs, Aunty (Iberta) McDaniel, brothers Ray (Nellie) Briggs Lettammarr Briggs, and Raymond. Sisters: Debra Evans, and Tremain (Percy)special sister Gina Daniels. Daughters: Michelle (Amando) Hill, and Jameila Briggs Nails. Grandchildren: Delvonte' and Deja Glover, Aniyah and AKeerah Nails, Nyshonn Cain, Great-grandaughter: Leilani Glover, and a host of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Fannymae, Briggs, LueIda Webster, Grandfathers Harriah Briggs Sr. , Roosevelt McDaniel, father Harriah J. Briggs, Sisters: Dianne Rush, Denise Briggs, and brother Tony Briggs.
Charles's legacy will forever be of being kind to others. He often demonstrated the importance of being tough and standing up for oneself. One of Charles's greatest accomplishments was the birth of his children, and being a great guy.Charles's warm, humble and funny personality will be greatly missed by his family, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of kindness will forever be cherished and his life lessons preserved in the hearts of his loved ones.
