Obituary

Charlene Carter-Lacefield was born May 13, 1943, to Mr. and Mrs. Charley (Doris) Carter in Gary, Indiana. She was the second of seven children born to their union.

Charlene was raised on 2685 Van Burren Street in Gary, Indiana. She attended Douglas Elementary and Roosevelt High School, graduating from Gary Roosevelt in 1961. She was a cheerleader for both schools, and a determined member of the Future Business Leaders of America. She attended Business College, graduating in 1966. Charlene was an Administrative Finance Officer for the Gary Fire Department for Forty-two years before retiring. She was a devoted member of Marquette Park United Methodist Church.

Charlene married Walter Lacefield and to that union were born two children: Walter Lacefield and Tracy Lacefield.

Charlene is survived by her daughter Tracy Lacefield, sisters Pamela Carter-Stewart, Rosemary Nichols-Smith (Billy), granddaughters Pamela Lacefield, Taylor (Leroy) Jackson, Briana Lacefield, Brandi (Bridget) Rodriguez and seven great-grandchildren.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, son Walter, brothers Charles Carter, Steven L. Carter, sisters Angela Carter-McKeever, and Maryann Carter-Bodie.

Charlene leaves a host of much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends to mourn her loss.
