Chantel's obituary
Chantel Nielsen, 53, passed away on March 19, 2026 after a weeks long battle with an infection, resulting in septic shock and subsequently pneumonia.
Chantel was born to her parents, LaMont and Carma Nielsen, on October 2, 1972 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was their second child, and first girl. On July 7, 1995, she married her husband, Tod Rees, and together they went on to have four children: Callie, Tara, Cydni, and T.G. Rees. She and her family moved to Arizona, which is where she lived for the remainder of her life.
She worked for Southwest Airlines for many years and was able to retire early. In her retirement and before it, Chantel loved to sew and travel, and she spent as much time as she could doing these with her loved ones, despite her decades long, hard fought health issues with her IgA Nephropathy and resulting kidney failure. Despite her chronic illness, she spent most of her time doing things for her family, whether that was creating beautiful things for them with her sewing machine or going on vacations to wonderful places with them. She loved to go on cruises and to theme parks, ride bikes, and in her later years, going to sewing conventions with her mother, blending her love of traveling and sewing together.
Chantel’s dedication to her family, as well as her admirably stubborn determination and love of life even in the face of constant hardship because of her chronic illness, will be remembered and admired by so many who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed.
Chantel was preceded in death by her brother, Morgan Nielsen, and will be welcomed to heaven by him as well as her many aunts, uncles, and grandparents who have passed. She is survived by her husband, Tod Rees, as well as all of her children: Callie, Tara, Cydni, and T.G. Rees. She will be dearly missed and remembered by her parents, Carma and LaMont Nielsen, as well as her surviving siblings: Michele Gardner, Shawn, and Jonny Nielsen.
