Hi,my name is J.P. Bailey and I met Chad about 25 or so years old. At the Hennepin County jail downtown mpls. We were both in the same pod together. Then I got moved to the kitchen crew. After a few months we both had court together and got sentence to the Hennepin County work house. And we got to know each other better. Then after I got out. I lost track of Chad. Until we ran into each other at Dakota Treatment Center 7 years ago . And we started talking to each other all of the time. When we were at Dakota Treatment Center. Then we started hanging out with each other. We went out to eat and we talked about all of the time we spent in jail. Then when he started to get sick. We were talking almost everyday. When he was at the hospital I went over and brought him cigarettes and pop. I push him around the hospital and we had a few cigs. I tried to spend as much time talking to him. Then all of a sudden. He wasn't answering my phone calls. It was like a couple of weeks then I got a hold of Amy and she told me that Chad was in bad shape. So I went over to see him. OMG I lost it 😭 BIG TIME!!!! I couldn't believe what I was see. OMG he couldn't talk or do anything. Amy warned me that he wasn't doing very well. I tried to talk to him and I pray to God that he heard what I was saying to him 🙏. He was a great friend and we talked a lot. OMG I truly miss Chad. Who's going to listen to me complaining about everything.
CHAD WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART.

Dear Stevens and Klegsted family and Chad's dearest friends,
I'm heartbroken to hear about Chad’s passing. He was such a kind, big-hearted, and respectful guy. He made a lasting impact on my life. Though our paths diverged, I will always remember him with deep gratitude and affection for the person he was.
My heart goes out to you in this time of grief. I hope you find comfort in the love and memories you shared with him. Please know that Chad touched many lives, and he will always be remembered with warmth and respect. If there is anything I can do to help you during this time, please let know.
With deepest sympathies,
Heather Humphries

Chad asked me to go tubing in Welch Village with him and Flaherty, Shane, and another friend of his whose name is escaping me. I was excited, I loved to swim and had never been on the water tubing before. Chad seemed excited too, until we were in the first couple of feet of the river when he tells me he doesn't know how to swim. -_- Without anything to lash us together I walked him through sitting in the tube and he held on to my foot the rest of the way. He was terrified through the whole thing. We laughed about it after, but I wasn't sure we'd make it all the way through. That's one of my favorite memories with him. We went back to his home in Farmington after to clean up and spent some time with Heidi. A great day.
